THERE ARE NO FUNNY MICROSOFT PAINT-MANIPULATED PHOTOS IN THIS POST; ALL APOLOGIES.

A bit of the ol' shameless-self-promo:

Check out the latest ish of elimae for a short by yours truly. You'll have to scroll down a bit to find it.

So my aunt just sent me this really cheesy Halloween story, and I was about to delete it, but then I thought it might be a good one to share with [the older] kids, maybe at the Enchanted Castle, or just in our schools. If there are concerns about the story having a bar in it, I'm sure it can be easily altered to say "a man was walking home from a friend's house..."

Sorry for the huge spaces and the length, I couldn't figure out how to delete them all in a short period of time... :-P

Here's the story, enjoy!:

> A man was walking home alone from a bar late one foggy night , when

>somewhere behind him he hears:

>

> BUMP...

>

> BUMP...

>

> BUMP...BUMP

>

> Walking faster, he looks back and through the fog he makes out the

>image of an upright casket banging its way down the middle of the street

>towards him.

>

> BUMP...

>

> BUMP...

>

> BUMP...BUMP

>

> Terrified, the man begins to run toward his home, the casket

>bouncing along quickly behind him

>

> FASTER...

>

> FASTER...

>

> FASTER....

>

> BUMP...

>

> BUMP...BUMP

>

> He runs up to his door, fumbles with his keys, opens the door,

>rushes in, slams and locks the door behind him.

>

> However, the casket crashes through his door, with the lid of the

>casket clapping open and shut, open.

>

> CLAPPITY-BUMP.......

>

> Clappity-BUMP...

>

> Clappity-BUMP...BUMP

>

> It's right on his heels ... The terrified man runs..

>

> Rushing upstairs to the bathroom, the man locks himself in. His

>heart is pounding; his head is reeling; his breath is coming in sobbing

>gasps.

> With a loud CRASH the casket breaks down the door.

>

>

> Bumping and clapping toward him.

>

>

> The man screams and reaches for something, anything ... But all he

>can find is a bottle of cough syrup !

>

>

> Desperate, he throws the cough syrup at the casket...

>

>

> And...

> >

> >

> >

> >

> >

> >

> The coffin stops!

As I mentioned about a week ago, my apartment-mates and I are hosting a Halloween Costume Party on Saturday, October 28th, the night of Make a Difference Day.

I live at 2815 N. Albany (60618) which is right off of Diversey (2800 W). The easiest way to get there is to take the Blue Line to the Logan Square stop, walk North on Kedzie and turn right on Diversey. Albany is just a couple blocks up, and then turn left on Albany.

Everyone is welcome (including significant others, friends, and random vigilantes of justice you may convince to come), the party starts at 9pm. Bring your own bevs...the theme's superheros and archnemeses.

Questions may be directed to the Question Man at 773-332-7375. Ask for the Question Man.
hey guys, i hope all is well at the sites. noble is great.

i don't know anything about this event or the people who are sponsoring it (i.e. whether it's a cult or not), but i got a flier and thought i'd spread the word in case any of you are interested. i guess what i'm trying to say is i don't want to take responsibility if it turns out to be crazyfest '06.

SUNDAY OCTOBER 15, 2006--STAND UP AGAINST POVERTY!!

ONE: the campaign to make poverty history: www.one.org

with guest speakers: Princess Zulu (AIDS advocate from Zambia), Father Aengus Finucane (what a name! Honorary President of Concern Worldwide), Shayne Moore (ONE volunteer)

7pm @ the Chicago Cultural Center
78 E. Washington St., Chicago IL 60602

what's with this ONE stuff?
"...ONE is students and ministers, punk rockers and NASCAR moms, Americans of all beliefs and every walk of life..."
"...ONE believes that allocating an additional ONE percent of the U.S. budget toward providing basic needs like health, education, clean water, and food would transform the futures and hopes of an entire generation in the world's poorest countries."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK, so i don't know if i am going or not, but i might just to see what it's all about (read: determine their cultishness), and probably get a drink afterward. i'll try to stay away from the nike sneaker and kool-aid promotional booths.

give me a call if you want to meet up. or if you know of something better that's going on.

There is an interesting article on poverty in this week's NYT Magazine:

And more controversially, he vowed to raise $24 million in private donations to finance “conditional cash transfers” to give poor New Yorkers an incentive “to stay in school, stay at work and stay on track to rise out of poverty.” A mayoral aide later explained that this behaviorist approach to fighting poverty has become popular in the developing world and has had a “phenomenal” effect on school attendance in Mexico.

Heather Mac Donald, a fellow at the conservative Manhattan Institute for Policy Research, welcomed Bloomberg’s implicit acceptance of the view that “it is the underclass poor who need to change more than society or capitalism.” At the same time, she argued that he had undermined the case for self-reliance by establishing “an expectation among the underclass that they have a right to cash for simply conforming to the norms of civil society.” Bloomberg responded by noting that if you could use a tax credit to “encourage people to do certain types of economic activity,” you could use cash just as well.

This seems completely off-base.
